In-The-Round Seating

The Round is the perfect venue for many different types of performances. Its circular stage and in-the-round seating allow audiences to get closer to the action. The NSMT’s staff works hard to mesmerize audience members with their outstanding productions. The Boot stomping, hands clapping, and finger snapping entertainment they create is a must-see for theatre lovers.

Unlike proscenium theaters, where the set pieces can be pulled in from the wings, theatres in the round need other ways to move on and offstage. Scenery and actors can enter from lifts or trap doors beneath the stage, or descend from a rig above the audience seats called a vomitorium.

Situated at house right (from the main entrance), this seat puts audiences on the long side of the oval. This spot is ideal for viewing Laffrey’s fallen power pole, which is the central tenet of voodoo temples and serves as the path for Erzulie in her big number “Mama Will Provide.” It also provides the best view of Ti Moune’s face during an emotional climax that leaves audience members in tears.
